ABOUT PROGRAM

Pocket City Basketball was established in 2013 to provide an opportunity for the youth of Southern Indiana and Southern Illinois to gain a new basketball experience outside of their school programs. After a successful first year of the Pocket City Basketball Fall X-League, which featured 150 of the top players in the Southern Indiana and Southern Illinois area, the decision was made to go a step beyond and form a grassroots basketball program that would further highlight the wealth of talent that was hidden in “The Pocket”.

Year one of the grassroots division featured travel teams at each high school age level. With aggressive travel events in Chicago, Milwaukee, Detroit, Cincinnati and Indianapolis, our local athletes began to open the eyes of college coaches, scouts and media members across the Midwest. The hard working and skilled young men that have always been present, yet overlooked in the area, were now able to fully take advantage of the new earned exposure. All of the original 17u players went on to college, while 8 of them went on to play basketball collegiality. A total of 43 Pocket City Basketball grassroots alumni have signed or have gone on to play college basketball since 2013. In the same time frame, an additional 31 Pocket City Basketball Fall X-League participants have also achieved goals of playing college basketball.

The momentum of the Spring/Summer grassroots season carried over to the 2nd Pocket City Basketball Fall X-League, where over 25 DII, DIII, NAIA and NJCAA programs visited Fall League games to evaluate the now over 250 players and 28 teams competing in 2014. Currently in 2017, the Pocket City Basketball Fall X-League, is the premier Fall basketball experience in Southern Indiana and Southern Illinois.

Our grassroots staff prides themselves on quality teaching mixed with the preparedness for quality competition. The Pocket City Basketball staff understands the levels to grassroots basketball as well as the make-up of an individual roster. Every player earns the opportunity to play for the program. A heavy emphasis is placed on Fall League evaluations by staff in forming our travel teams. As the Program will always consist primarily of players from Southern Indiana, Southern Illinois and Western Kentucky, the Program is also open to quality individuals and families from outside the immediate area that share the same affection for the game of basketball and share our core principles and beliefs. In addition, our staff will work with each player and family in the Program on finding the best grassroots fit for each individual, rather it is inside the Pocket City Basketball organization or outside.

Pocket City Basketball is an official USA Basketball Youth Development Organization. All of the Program’s grassroots coaches are certified with both USA Basketball and the NCAA.
